The last owners of the theater sought a new owner to operate the theater. After a long search they were unable to find one. Eventually they sold the theater to Dr. James Chen, a local Orthopaedic Surgeon. He plans to add a surgical center and new housing to the site. Plans for the project include preserving the existing building facade, the famous Nob Hill Theater sign and the Theater Auditorium.

The last owners donated items of historical interest to the archives of the GLBT Historical Society.

Other Preservation Plans Include:

  • Preservation of the front of the stage, the curtain and the auditorium space

  • An Exterior historical plaque

  • A Nighttime historical projection onto the sidewalk

  • A Lobby Vitrine with original objects from The Nob Hill Theater

  • A historical website with information about the theater and an oral history project
